Two pieces I created while studying at Emily Carr in 2009. The image on the left was created out of 4 pieces of paper, placed on the floor around me. Our instructor told us to draw the same type of shape on each peice and continue until we were satisfied, leaving a group of students spinning and painting. We then tore up the paper and glued in back together again to create a large 30 x 50 image. After applying acrylic paint, charcoal, and conte, we were all pleased with our results. The image on the right is done in charcoal and white conte, done with an abstract expressionist notion of the autographic gesture and automatic drawing, also focusing on trying to create different types of lines. These abstract drawings have been very inspirational to my work and are two of my favourite pieces.
